What are annuals?

love_to_garden(z6 PE)January 1, 2013

Annuals are flowers that complete their life cycle in one season, during which they grow, flower, and produce seed. Athough alot of annuals self-seed, certain characteristics may be lost, since the parents of each seed are unknown. They come in many shapes, sizes, and colours. The bloom usually last all season. Most are easy to start from seed, so you can have more of a variety without spending lots of money.

Hardy annuals are not normally killed by frosts.

Half hardy annuals are normally killed by frosts, and usually are started indoors before planting outside.

Winter annual germinate late in the growing season and flowers early the folling season. It will also develop normally from a spring sowing.
