Species are native to Mexico, Central America, South America, the Dominican Republic and New Zealand.

These fuchsias are a bit more difficult to grow than cultivars, but with a bit of care and attention produce wonderful plants and flowers. In the wild are usually found in cloud forests, some being epiphytic. They will grow well in a free draining soil and appreciate daily misting.

Will grow successfully in the garden in the summer months, prefer a semi shady spot. They can be overwintered in a greenhouse at 45f/8c, keeping them on the dry side until the Spring. Cuttings will root easily and plants grown from seed will 'come-true' as parent plant is a species.
