Valerian root and other herbal relaxants

gwtamaraJanuary 1, 2013

Valerian root is the strongest of all herbal relaxants. Others are hops and catnip and to a lesser extent, chamomile. These herbs should only be used in emergencies, because they lose their effectiveness with frequent use.

All of these can be used fresh or dried, chewed or brewed. They are also available in tinctures and tablets. They choice is a matter of personal preference.

Like so many herbal remedies, the taste of most of the herbal relaxants is pleasant to the people who were accustomed to them as little children and unpleasant to those who were introduced to them later in life. The best example is Valerian root which is a delicacy to the initiated and totally unpalatable to others.
