My plant has developed offsets. How do I divide it?

First, ask yourself if you really want to divide it. Bromeliads do very well as clusters and in that form give a really showy blooming display! If you do want to divide it, though, get a very sharp blade and cut through the rhizome near the base of the mother plant. Let the offset stay unpotted for several days while the cut hardens, then repot into soil. Offsets from Vriesea and Guzmania are harder to keep alive at this stage; be sure to keep their soil moist and to keep the offsets in shade.

Do not remove offsets until they are at least half as high as the parent plant.
