We grow snaps in 10-12 inch tubs and they could be used for cuttings. The same with dreamland or profusion zinnia. I grew profusion orange in whisky barrels last year from April thru Sept last year here in Central Texas. Snaps don't make it thru summers here. Not sure where you are located but if the flower will grow in the ground in your area you can grow them in a pot for the same purpose. Happy Growing and cut away David

Yes you have to plan on replacing the soil because it breaks down over time. If you live where it's hot in summer, putting the pot inside another larger pot helps to shade the roots. Don't let them go very dry in summer because this can make the roses stop blooming. Be sure to water well the day before you feed them. The fun about pots is being able to move them wherever you like. I use it to find the right planting locations sometimes and also when we have friends and family over, I move them around to add color. They don't mind being in the shade for a day if you put them back in the sun right away. During heatwaves, my potted roses hide under trees and in the shade of the house where they prefer it I'm sure.

Marg, like Ben I do a guestimation when repotting..but I can give you an approximate ratio. 1/3 part all purpose potting soil, (black) 1/3 sand and 1/3 peat..I also throw in a couple handfuls of Perlite. Because of the number of plants I have I buy 40 and 50lb bags of potting mediums. Out here you can get smaller bags of Perlite, but w/sand it only comes in big bags..but the thing about buying bigger sizes, it lasts a long time..And if you grow other types of plants you can mix your own soil come repotting time. For instance, when I pot up cactus and succulents, I add more sand/perlite than all purpose. When potting a tropical I use less. But it all evens out at the end..Toni
