Tea with the Birds Critter Feeder

The base and the teapot came from Big Lots, the teacup was a thrift store purchase. The base is a candle holder (the kind that has the spikes in the middle to hold a pillar candle). I pounded the top of the spikes flat, just a little, to make it a connection point. I figure the more places the ceramic touches the metal and can be glued the better.

I used Krazy glue to glue the cup and saucer to one side and used something heavy to balance the other side until it was cured and secure. Then I just played with the teapot, balancing it until it fit securely on the other holder and also balanced the whole piece so it wouldn't tip. I Krazy glued it wherever the metal was touching.

I let the whole thing cure overnight then used epoxy and a toothpick to reinforce the connections. I've wiggled it and tried to pull it apart, so far so good!

Very pretty! Just wanted to add a little something. I have a friend who glues the cups to the saucers & glues a pipe fitting on the bottom of the saucer. She gave me one & I mounted it on one of those old cheap flag poles (the ones with the plastic eagle on the end). I removed the eagle, stuck the pole in the ground & put the cup on top....the cardinals love it!

The blue totem looks like it should be spouting water! Very pretty blues! You matched the blue flowers in the teacup so well with that vase. I was at a rummage sale at my friend's church where you could fill up a cart of stuff for $5. I got a bunch of the bud vases to use like you did with your teacup. They both look great! I bet your DH's Grandma was thrilled!

Your candy dish is cute. Love your birdie picture. Silly birds they build nests in the craziest places. Last year killdeers built a nest amongest our hostas. Our grandkids, 3 and 5 loved watching the eggs go from eggs to babies, to grown up birds, very educational for them and grandma.

Just some info about how I make the teacup feeders. I don't use them as birdfeeders but use the clear glass teacups and saucers and put a tealight in them for around the patio. Look very nice at night with the candle glowing. Anyhow we use 2 part clear epoxy to glue the cup to the saucer, then glue a copper end fitting to the bottom center of the saucer. The copper pipe then fits into the end fitting and isn't glued, just a friction fit. The pipe can be removed for winter storage. If the cup and saucer needs washing I can easily remove it. We've made and sold many dozens of these. They cost less than $2 each and sold for $8. Most of the cost was for the copper pipe. Only took a few minutes to make a bunch assembly-style so it wasn't bad profit. I've heard of people selling them for $25 but I think that would have to be in a really high-end shop. The ones I have for my garden use rebar cause the price of copper went way up a couple of years ago. I have a few but haven't put them out yet - I'll try to remember to post a pic later. I'm really busy trying to get on top of this gardening so not spending a lot of time on the net.
