How do I get rid of aphids?

Aphids are the most common of rose pests and are usually green, reddish or brown in color.They feed on the sap of the tender new growth at the tips of the canes causing growth and flowers to be stunted. A hard spray of water from the hose will knock them off and often they will not be able to return to the plant. You can also remove them with your fingers by stroking the tips with your thrumb and forefinger. Ladybugs love to dine on aphids and can devour hundreds in a short time. If the infestation is really bad then the plant can be weakened and an insecticide spray will be needed. Because they are soft-bodied, insecticidal soap is ususally sufficient.

ladybug eggs are football shape yellowish. If have pressure washer back off 10 foot from plant and wash aphid off by nature a thunder storm take them out rain wind aphid don't travel for only when there winged do travel long distance. ants cultivate ahhids there after there honey due chit in other words its sweet to ants food source.ladybug are not control for ahpids control being 4 or 5 per leaf. You can remove aphid with garden hose but pressure washer create more wind.Black eggs could be ladybug eggs that have mold caused by honey due from aphids.

socks, Thanks for the eternal optimism! lol.. I dont even know what rootstock is. I do know the owner of the house planted this rosebush 5 years ago, and knowing him, it was for bloom. When I first tackled it it had 5 or six main branches a good 6 feet long each and there was groundcover rooted all around it. I think Ive cared for this plant more than my child lately! lol Anywhooo.. I yanked out all the constricting roots, put down a bunch of good soil, and about 5 inches of mulch over that.. Its growing like crazy, and yes it seems the aphids like the tips of the plant where it looks like there COULD be some buds.. I am no expert on roses tho, so Im depending on this site!! I usually hang out in the cacti succulent forum~ lol As for this zone.. should be named CRAP for all I care lately! Today is the first day weve seen 80's almost all summer.. September gets night frosts, with our first snowfall in mid October normally.. Thanks, Christina

To expand what ken said, the aphids secretes a sweet substance that the ants feed on, so as Ken says ...get rid of the aphids and you will get rid of the ants by spraying them with water or using insecticidal soap..... As for the "critter in the spit".....it is a spittle bug that is sucking the plant juices from your plant and is protected by the frothy foam......best way to rid them is to wash them off with water.... Tomato Hornworms - picking them off is a good option since they are easily spotted. Smaller insects such as flea beetles, whiteflies and aphids may require pest control products. Refer to label directions prior to using any insecticide.
