Castor Bean ~ Ricinus

Castor bean is a tall tropical-looking annual plant with large palmate leaves. Because all parts of castor plant are toxic it should not be grown where children might be attracted to the berry-looking seed pods.

Seed collection is easy. The plant produces large ornate seed pods studded with cillia. When the pods turn dark brown and are dry they may be removed from the plant. The pod will separate into three chambers, each encasing one single seed. The seeds are reminiscent of beetles. Castor beans are thick, dense seeds and should be dried in a safe location for several weeks before packing.

ontheteam I use Dave's often I like robs plants also great pics. I'm going to the RI flower show tomorrow morning w/ friends how was it? i gave one of my good friends a ws set up for X-mass. Prepped & filled a milk & soda bottle for her along w/ tags,paint pen,tape and seeds is fun to have garden buddies whenever we stop by each others houses we end up digging something up for the other. Hi There I am in the process of updating my trade list (hope to have it done by the weekend. I have several different types of tall zinnia's as well as some red's, pink's and white's coming from a US e-bay purchase that I could trade as well.
