Thanks for the reply! When you refer to a dormancy period, I'm guessing the plants would need shorter "days" but also cooler temperatures? That might actually work out Ok, since the tank could be put in an unheated/uncooled room. It would basically be close to outside temperature all year round.

I agree, the capensis sundew is the best for beginners. Other relatively easy plants to grow are: pinguicula morarensis, drosera filiformis, and drosera binata; sorry if there are some mistakes in the spelling of names. This others are easy too, as long as you provide them enough humidity: drosera adelae, nepenthes alata, and drosera spatulata. Same rule applies for a lot of Sarracenia (pitcher plants), but you must give them lots of light or the pitchers will be pale green and the plant will eventually die. The possible exception is sarracenia purpurea. I DON´T recomend venus flytraps (dionaea muscipula), because they need lots of humidity, lots of light, and over all, a WINTER DORMANCY, if you don´t give them one, they will certainly die. I'm currently growing a Nepenthes ventricosa as well as Nepenthes maxima x talangensis seeds (that haven't germinated for about a month, which is typical) under lights, by a window. I was a bit concerned because of the light that it gets. It's a SE window with a total of 2000 watts along with reflective surface in a 20-gallon terrarium.The plants are 5 inches under the lights. I'm concerned because the weak lights, and because the window is above the terrarium ; only a few strong rays shine everyday. The ventricosa is fine ; grows new leaves quite fast but only has one pitcher.. I'm getting an Oncidium twinkle and I'll probably end up adding pings, sundews, phals and paphs. Because of the size of the terrarium, I was thinking about changing my setup.. Would a unblocked, East (bordering North-East, although it does get some sun) with a table stretched out be enough? I was thinking about adding around 5000 lumens (with a two-bulb 48" fluorescent) as supplemental lighting and keeping the nepenthes and paph. in the terrarium.

There are actually quite a few candidates depending on the conditions you wish to provide. There are a multitude of very small to true miniatures in the orchid family. You just have a bit of research ahead of you. *For cool to intermediate temperatures: Masdevalias, Draculas, Dendrobiums, and Restrepia are some examples. *For warm temps: some mini-Cattleyas, Dendrobiums, and Epidendrums/Encyclia would be some examples.
